All students in Year 3 and Year 5 will sit NAPLAN tests next week.
NAPLAN is short for National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN is not intended to be a test that students study for, NAPLAN provides a snapshot of the literacy and numeracy skills your child has developed to date in comparison with same age peers across the country. Schedule of the skills assessed include;
Tuesday 14th May – Language and Conventions test (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
Tuesday 14th May – Writing test
Wednesday 15th May – Reading test
Thursday 16th May – Numeracy
Assessment will be conducted between 9am and 11:30am each of these days.
Please note “ACARA does not recommend the use of commercial products, such as booklets and practice tests, to help your child prepare for NAPLAN tests. None of the commercial products currently on the market are endorsed by ACARA. The use of services by coaching providers is not recommended.”
The best preparation parents can provide for NAPLAN week includes ensuring;
· A positive, calm, ‘no pressure’ attitude towards the assessments
· Great sleep prior to the assessment
· A hearty dinner and light low GI breakfast each morning of the assessments
· Exercise and activity before and after assessment
· Ensure that your child knows that the most important traits, characteristics and skills of successful learners, are not measured by this assessment.
