Last Friday the team faced a very experienced Croydon side! We started off really well and were holding our positions on the field. Croydon demonstrated great passing and moving skills and had a strong forward with a great strike and unfortunately the half time score was 5-0.
Coach Pashley told her team not to think about the score but to focus on improving one aspect of their game - marking up. The team returned to the pitch for the second half with heads held high and our goal clearly in the forefront of our minds. My goodness what a second half! The girls really stepped up. Batol and Koharu were unstoppable in the back line, kicking their way into attack! Antonina pulled off an incredible save putting her body on the line! The final score was 6-0 to Croydon and we were so proud of ourselves due to the significant improvement in the second half! The team showed grit, perseverance and resilience!
Well done Homebush West.

Last Friday the teams played against Croydon PS in their first official game of the PSSA Winter Competition. Our team adjusted so well to playing on a larger field with so much more space to work with!
A few highlights from today’s game include:
Junior As
* Melanie’s five great saves as goalkeeper - nice!
* Ritika’s super speed as our mid fielder - excellent!
* Ellaisha’s improved speed and technique on the field, especially ball control!
Junior Bs
* Chloe’s five great saves as our goalkeeper - wow!
* Laura’s on field reminders for the team to spread out and mark a player - commendable!
* Ruby’s quick thinking as a mid-fielder, running up and ensuring the striker was always well-supported!
Although we lost 0-4 (Junior As) and 0-3 (Junior Bs), the team quickly grouped together and collectively reflected on their effort and ‘where to next’ goals. I couldn’t be more proud!
Our team continues to amaze me with their increased maturity, resilience and determination and I am just so proud to be their coach.

After the washout in Week 2, the team played against Strathfield South last Friday. The action was thick and fast from the get go with play running end to end throughout most of the half.
Strathfield led into the break with 2 goals after they profited from a lucky deflection.
The second half took off where the first ended and with dark clouds threatening rain, both teams played out a carbon copy of the first half with end to end raids.
Strathfield prevailed after some solid pressure and put away two more goals in the second half. Despite the score we defended well but struggled to keep our shape in attack which limited our scoring options.
Great effort and attitude from all the players this week.

After a washout week the Junior Boys were back! Last Friday at Strathfield Park Homebush West took on Strathfield South. The boys were led by captain Pranav our goal keeper for the match. Pranav gave it his best throughout the game. In the final few minutes he had some assistance from Nirav to save the opposition’s last attempt at getting another point on the board. Hugo provided some big kicks in the game which set up our winger Derek, to take the ball and run. His quick speed helped him move up the field, however he wasn't always given the space to really take control. We tried our best, however it wasn’t quite enough this week. The team should be proud of their efforts, we are continually improving.
Our training has been focusing on the general rules and ball control. We have added skills around quick thinking and looking around for who is free when passing, to make the best decisions.

Last Friday, Homebush West's Senior Netball A team versed Burwood Public School in a back and forth battle. In the 1st half we scored one goal and Burwood scored zero. In the second half things started to heat up, Olivia was injured and Chinmayee had to go into GS. Unbelievably, she scored five goals and scored one in the last few seconds of the game. The B team had less luck, and scored only two goals to seven with a sad loss. The players of the week were Chinmayee for her goal scoring and Jocelin for her perseverance and team spirit.

Last Friday Homebush West played against a strong and competitive Burwood. The Junior A team put in their best effort to work the ball down the court, defending their player as well as encouraging each other. At halftime it was 1-1.
The second half was just as fast and furious as the first, with Burwood gaining a quick 2 point lead. We came back to level the score at 3-3 but were beaten by a last minute goal. The final score was 3-4
Junior B
The team played a fierce and determined game going into the break with a 2-0 lead.
We entered the second half quietly confident that we could win. We jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead due to great team work getting the ball into the circle. Burwood were able to get a goal back, but we held strong and came away with a stupendous win. Well done team.
