NAIDOC Week

Its NAIDOC Week 2019, and this year we celebrate Aboriginal Achievement, culture, history, and connection to country with the theme; Voice, Treaty, Truth, Let’s work together for a shared future. Our students have been preparing for NAIDOC celebrations learning about what a treaty is, why it is important, when treaties are entered into and why.

Today we showed our commitment to hearing the truth about Aboriginal history and reconciling and empowering all of us to flourish in the future by forming a human treaty as we hosted a special assembly to mark Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Our ‘human treaty’ was a great success, engaging every student and staff member, what commitment.

This special moment was accompanied by the famous song ‘Treaty’ by Yothu Yindi which was written in the hope of reconciliation, still not fully realised. Our whole school sang the National Anthem including the Dharawal verse of this song, all captured by drone, to be shared to our website and across the school.

Thanks to the NAIDOC team, Ms Pashley, Ms Pene, Ms Molloy and Ms Stone for making this fabulous memorable moment possible and contributing to our NAIDOC learning as a school community. Thank you to the parents who joined us for the morning.
